The lotus is an ancient and polyvalent symbol in Asian culture. Hindus revere it with the gods Vishnu, Brahma and to a lesser degree Kubera, and the goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati . Often used as an example of divine beauty and purity, Vishnu is often described as the “Lotus-Eyed One”. The lotus springs from the navel of Vishnu while he is in Yoga Nidra. The lotus blooms uncovering the creator god Brahma in lotus position Its unfolding petals suggest the expansion of the soul. The growth of its pure beauty from the mud of its origin holds a benign spiritual promise. Particularly Brahma and Lakshmi, the divinities of potency and wealth, have the lotus symbol associated with them.
The lotus flower is one of the Ashtamangala of Buddhism, representative of creation and cosmic renewal and “primordial purity”, The padma is held to be a flower with a thousand petals and is therefore associated with the Sahasrara and indeed all the chakra. The padma appears as an endemic dais upon which deities rest and indeed upon which Hindu iconography is founded.
In Buddhist symbolism the lotus is symbolic of purity of the body, speech and mind as while rooted in the mud, its flowers blossom on long stalks as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. It is also symbolic of detachment as drops of water easily slide off its petals.
It is also to be noted that many Asian deities are depicted seated on a lotus flower. According to legend, Gautama Buddha was born with the ability to walk and everywhere he stepped, lotus flowers bloomed. For more details link in bio☝️

Todays the last day with Extended hand to big toe pose - defiently still working on this one!😅
I love balancing, your whole focus is on the body ... it's allmost as if the wold around you stands still. Adding more balances to my daily practise has really helped in calming mind. Recently alot of not so fun things have happend, my old normal responce would be to withtreat from the world and hide. Now when everything gets crazy I just want to practise. I find it helps me work through feelings in a way that is healthy..... It means my practise at times feels messy but I've found it's the messy ones that have the best impact on how I feel.
I'm sad this challenge is over, I'll defiently be on the look out for another!
I've been amazed at how supportive everyone is (I was so sceard starting this instagram 🙈🙈🙈) I love that the challenge has pushed me to attempt poses I thought would be impossible, I'll defiently keep working at them all.

Day 2 of the May Detox Pose today is anjaneyasana, low lunge. I’m showing a heart opening arm variation here, reaching fingertips straight down to the earth, releasing neck and shoulders down the back. For me, this adds another element of balance. I like moving dynamically with the breath, inhales press into the front heel and stabilize the hips, exhale release the hips to the ground as it feels good. Low belly lengthens and lifts, bringing the pelvis more upright (rather than the upper body folding over the front thigh, make sense?). Recently, I’ve been finding such sweetness in my approach to yoga... while not nearly as disciplined and strict as years past, my energy has remained very open and I see it in my body. Even though I haven’t been practicing as regularly, my flexibility or mobility isn’t lessening.... and I think it’s important to talk about! Especially at a time where yoga is utilized more and more in the west, it can often become another form of perfectionism or need for control (at least it was to me for a long while!). Be sweet to yourSelf. A well intended soft pose like this can be equally or even more healing than handstand or another ‘advanced’ pose... it’s all the same.
What matters is the intent that going into it. Why do we do what we do? To feed the ego,, to feel good... a little bit of both?
