I am seriously about to jump on the dragon!!! But, for real… fear is no joke.
And it is stored in the body! Even years after the traumatic, fear inducing events that have happened to us are long over; we carry around these imprints of fear, anger, sorrow, frustration and sadness in our physical vehicles. Emotions imprint into our flesh as physical manifestations of our thoughts and feelings; have you ever made yourself sick from stress? Or had knots in your shoulders after a long day at work? I am sure you have! We all have!
That’s why it is important to l-e-t—g-o of these thoughts and feelings through physical movement or manipulation. Have you ever cried in a yoga class, or felt awesome after a long run? These are our negative emotions finding their way out through expansion of breath and muscle elongation. Did you know that animals physically shake after experiencing trauma in order to release it and that humans are the only species that actively avoid this release? Just another thing to be aware of about the conditioning we have endured… yikes. One of the most common places where we store emotion in the physical body are in the hips- home of the sacral chakra- which to no surprise, is also our energetic center of emotion (it all starts to connect!) Through regular stretching and movement & simple asana you can do at home (Youtube, for free) you can let go of these pent up emotions that may be causing blockages in other parts of your life! I love twists. I mean, really love them.
The tension we carry in our backs is not only uncomfortable, it keeps us from being flexible with change. Then tension is literally holding onto where we are rather than embracing the change.
As we twist, we want to use it as an opportunity to let go of resistance to change, to moving forward in our lives.
When in a twist, keep coming back to your breath to soften into the twist and feel yourself softening into any changes you need to make in your life.
Two oils are quintessential oils for a twisting practice: Transformation and Surrender.
🧘🏻♂️ Transformation: Helps us through the uncomfortable first steps of a change we are making and also through the middle ground, when turning back is often easier than going forward.
🧘🏻♂️ Surrender: The tension in our back is resistance to the change. Surrender allows us to gracefully move through it.
I use both of these oils interchangeably in a twisting practice. I either rub them into my feet or diffuse them. (Sometimes I need BOTH!) NOTE: Check highlights under PRACTICE. I describe HOW I use my oils in practice. I do NOT use an oil per pose. :-)

Join us for October 15th- 21st as we work on rebalancing and releasing our chakras. Chakras are the seven centers of energy in the body that run from your seat bone all the way up to the crown of your head. In a healthy and balanced person, the 7 chakras provide exactly the right amount of energy to every part of the mind, body and spirit. Yoga is an amazing way to re-center your chakras, as it can help to free up energy and stimulate those that are blocked. This challenge will focus on one chakra per day and specify a pose that can help to rebalance it. We also want to hear from you guys the ways you keep your chakras balanced off the mat. The crazier the way, the better!
