We had an amazing day yesterday at Umina Beach. The local turned out in great number as we welcomed 150 participants to spend a sunny Saturday morning cleaning and collect debris data from around the beautiful central coast town.

More Muscle, more metabolism. The effects of lifting weights has on your body composition is profound!! Muscle speeds your metabolism up making fat loss more effective when you lift weights! But that isn’t the most important reason you should be adding strength training to your training regime! .

• keeps your bone density strong reducing your chance of osteoarthritis and broken bones

Yes we all want to look better naked but that shouldn’t be your sole reason for working out! Living a healthier happier life should be our focus for getting our butts to the gym.

Yoga doesn't have to be strong, fast or fancy to be effective.
It took me a while to realise that when I was feeling anxious, agitated or overwhelmed my strong vinyasa class wasn't helping and I was often disassociating from my body and mind by pushing myself.
In this video I'm using the 1:2 breath as I move. Starting by inhaling up to knees for 1 count, exhaling to child's pose for 2 counts, inhaling 1 count to all fours, exhaling for 2 counts. I then increase by 2 with each round so inhale for 2, exhale 4, then inhale 4, exhale 8, inhale 6, exhale 12.
Increasing the exhale has calming effect, but take care not to push yourself beyond your natural capacity or you might activate the sympathetic nervous system and have the opposite effect. Start slow and build your way up if it's appropriate.
