One of my favorites and yet this color palette and overall feel is still an outlier in my work. I’ve always been drawn to work that leaves some things to the imagination. For example, my favorite Klimt works are those left on his easels at the time of his death. Showing off your artistic excellence has it’s place, but it is egotistical. I believe by saying less you create space for a viewer’s own experience and allows for a more personal engagement. I hope to develop the ability to create more works that align with my mindfulness practice. I just haven’t been in that frame of mind lately. It takes practice to become good at doing nothing at all! Walking, humming, staring at clouds, swimming and barefoot wandering are some of my favorite ways of  becoming better at doing things with no function (this is a philosophical contradiction, believe me, I know!) Oh yes, and then there’s the breathing thing, which you can always do when you’re not doing anything 😊

What is a Mala?

Malas have become a popular tool in the yoga world these days. The reason is not just because they are beautiful to wear, but also because they really work!

If you are not sure what a mala is, You usually find them with 108 beads plus one guru bead at the end. Why are there 108 beads? Because it is a sacred number in the yoga world. Mathematicians of Vedic culture believed 108 was a number of the wholeness of existence. The extra guru bead is a representation that you have all the knowledge you need inside you. A tassel is at the end of the guru bead and it represents the lotus flower.

Malas (also called mala beads or prayer beads) could have a very powerful effect on the mind, body, and spirit. They are used to help increase focus and concentration and possibly activate a healing response by lowering heart rate and reducing blood pressure. Using a mala could help reduce stress and balance one’s emotions.
