The most important things in life aren’t things.
Today’s materialistic world urges us to constantly shop and be up to date with the latest trends. We are continuously exposed to images and videos that remind us of the ‘things’ we don’t have.
I have found that once I started to detach myself from materialistic things, I’ve had the time and focus to be able to invest in myself a lot more.
Limiting the time I spend on social media, spending less time watching videos, decluttering the things I own, separating my wants from my needs, traveling more, learning more, being a conscious consumer, appreciating my spending more time with nature, improving my health and character, giving my full and undivided attention to @warren.he when we spend time together, spending less time on my outer appearance and more time on what’s inside, and investing in items that serve long term benefits.
The most important things in life truly aren’t things. It’s kindness, our health, love, travel, and the way we choose to spend our time.

The adventure begins! Well, sort of. Today’s was really short.
Not only have we moved to a high rise on the 16th St Mall, we have gotten rid of our car. Today is the first full day without it & I needed a chicken for our lunch. I headed out prepared to jump on the mall shuttle to Whole Foods. Cook’s Fresh Market is on the street level of our building, so I decided to pop in there first. Success! I walked out with a chicken, roasted Brussel sprouts & sweet potatoes, & mini pumpkin muffins to pair with a green salad. Looking forward to lunch! .

When you talk to people about the possibility of not consuming, what they often think is that you are trying to take something away from them. But what you're really trying to do is to create a life that's good for yourself and good for the people around you 💚
I didn't have much growing up and we often couldn't afford necessities. I remember talking to my brother about it not that long ago. His reaction was to thrive for a life for his kids that he could only dream of. His kids should be about to get whatever their hearts desired. I totally get it! When you grow up unable to get a new pare of jeans after you grew out of the once you had or only able to wear hand me downs following behind on "fashion" compared to your class mates - that feeling you get in your stomach gets stock there all through life. I still feel it!
But a feeling of not being able to get what you really need is a completely different feeling than the one you should have when thriving towards a minimalist and sustainable lifestyle. That feeling in my stomach left there throughout my childhood is build on a capitalist consumer society, where status and worth in life is seen by others through what you own and how you dress. That's the problem. It's never about giving up on what you feel you really need because you can't afford it. It's all about changing your mindset and freeing yourself from the expectations. It's about truly being just you, detached from material belongings. It's about rather a thing you go after is something you "need" or "want". And really about not thinking about and using your energy on things anymore.
It takes time and I'm not nearly there yet, but I'm getting there. With each step towards a more minimalist and sustainable lifestyle I feel a little lighter emotionally. It's like it helps me deal with and let go of a lot of the thoughts and struggles through my childhood attached to prestige, image, self-promotion and bullying. It's changing how I see myself, what I want to do with my life and how I see the world around me. It's a huge thing for me! That's way I talk so much about it 🙏❤ #minimalistlife
Have you ever thought how we can make every aspect of our lives earth-friendly 🌿 #goinggreen
PLASTIC FREE SHOPPING 🥒 it feels soooo good to go to local bulk/bio stores and buy your veggies & other goodies without plastic! I even bought some bulk chocolate for my brother, broke it into pieces and it fit perfectly into my little jar 🍫 bring your own little cotton bags to carry fruits and veggies + jars to stash up on pasta, beans, etc! This was a limited shopping trip, but you can literally find everything you need 👌🏻 Thanks @beomarkt for making shopping so much fun ✨ #laurafromthedesert
Happy birthday to one of the most amazing, and genuine person that I’ve had the pleasure to have in my life. In the short time I’ve known her, she’s made country music tolerable, and she continues to be a positive influence to me. I hope you have as fantastic of a birthday as you are a person. Love you and I hope the good times will keep rolling 😊❤️ #tacos #memebuddies #5minutes #goinggreen #besties #netflixandwine
We had quite the toddler meltdown this morning because Isabelle wanted to go to school in the stroller instead of the car - guess I’m setting a good example for her by running to school most days? 😂 A good way to stay in shape and also be environmentally friendly ❤️ How is your week going so far? Any meltdowns on your end?
