staples are still generally cheaper, but in many areas known as food-deserts, especially in poor neighborhoods, there is limited access to fresh produce. Isn’t it about time the government transitioned to subsidizing healthy food, helping farmers transition to more environmentally friendly businesses, and put an end to these food deserts? It would also lower healthcare costs, making healthcare more affordable, seems like a no-brainer, do you agree?

Kieran does a lot of behind the scenes labor so that I can grow all the pretty vegetables. Chief among them is turning all the chicken and rabbit litter, kitchen scraps and weeds into beautiful rich soil! I can't imagine our life without compost...as funny as it is to say..it drives the whole system! And everything goes in there, from kitchen waste to what I sweep up off the floor every day. We use a combination of hot piles, cold piles, a tumbler and a rotation system with our garden beds that keeps one an active worm bin. None of which take up too much space. It's just a daily practice. And of course it takes someone willing to manage it..even after a hard days work, he's out there turning piles.. Thanks Kieran! @kieran076

The USDA announced this week it’s buying $50 million of milk from dairy farmers, to go to local food banks. It’s a decent step toward supporting dairy farmers, and will help with the struggle of food insecurity, but it’s not a long-term solution. As dairy prices continue to decline, and costs of production continue to rise, dairy farms are shutting down and farmer suicides are on the rise. Read the link in our profile to learn about the kind of aid dairy farmers have been asking for. (📷 Adobe Stock / ellisia) #farmlife #milk #farming #usda #dairyfarm #foodsecurity #foodjustice
