”The mental monsters and how to overcome them” 🤔
This week we are helding a competition camp in horseback archery on the farm, so we are going to talk a lot about the mental parts in both horse and rider, and what you can do to improve your team.
Sometimes just the word ”competition” scares the hell out of you, and although you have trained so much and so well, you ”fail” when you compete. Why is that so? Well, first of all - you never fail, either you win, or you learn. So in both cases you actually win.
To start with, the worst thing your brain can do is, to compare yourself with others, because just thinking the word ”fail”, indicates that you do. And yet - this is the big challenge of our modern society, because everyone is doing it - and in social medias all the time. How many times haven’t you heard, or thought yourself: ”Someday I want to be like him or her!” ?
The same second you speak those words, you’ll be blind for your own needs, you lose your self-trust. Become aware of how you look at yourself. Do you have a healthy and positive view of yourself or do you let others' opinions govern your view and define your own value? Stay tuned. Photo by: cyroo.se

'His body is strong, powerful enough to hold every fear. We dance to the tune of two minds as one.' Super proud of Dani @danielledressage and her beautiful boy, Welfadon who danced their way into the 3rd place in the Prix St George class at Caboolture 2* on the weekend. Congratulations to you both and all the other partnerships who competed and a big thumbs up to the organisers!
Yesterday was definitely a series of unfortunate events! We ran Fredos in the Intermediate-Novice section at Stratford Hills and things got off to not a bad start with a good test (even scoring a 10 for our last halt). We had the last two showjumps down round a very technical track- but we would have still ended up 3rd had we had a clear xc in the time which was going to plan until the penultimate fence!
I recently bought myself some Premier Equine hind xc boots and I put them on yesterday for their first outing. Two fences from home, Fredos buckled and slipped causing us to fall into the fence, leaving us with 20 penalties (and a stack load of time penalties due to the flag falling across the fence and having to be put back in place by the fence judge!). Coming through the finish I realised that these new boots had slipped down and bunched up right underneath Fredos' fetlocks and down his hooves!!- which had quite clearly caused this crash, however, luckily he only came away with minor abrasions, but I am not impressed as this could have been a lot worse.
To add insult to injury, we then had a blow out 2 hours from home and the insurance had us wait 3 hours before we were rescued!
Definitely a far from ideal day and not the run we wanted just before we attempt our first 2*. Hopefully onwards and upwards! #surreyequinemassage #needluck #pointersequine #notimpressed #notmyday #eventersofinstagram #amazinghorse
”Horses will only break your bones, and you’ve got 206 of those. All good” 🤔
It’s a saying called ”horsepeople are stable” and that is of course not always a good thing, they continue until they drop, even if they become injured.
Two days ago, Ylwa was adjusted for pelvic rotation, an old injury, that probably dates three years back when she fell of a horse.
Riders tend to be careful to stretch their horses, treat them with massage and maybe even let a chiropractor visit from time to time. But we forget ourselves! It's actually very stupid, because a crooked rider gives a crooked horse.
All of this, we are all of course very well aware of, and yet we keep on forgetting ourselves. But you can always start today to take care of your own body, if nothing else, so your horse can stay in a healthy body, that will last for a long time 🙏🏼

So this superstar did a 29.8 Dressage. Clear SJ, Clear XC with just 1.6time faults and “would have” won her section with flying colours. However ......shoot the sodding jockey who jumped up the wrong part of the step in a combination!!! So I got us eliminated!! The horse was perfect and I seriously let her down!! Sooo Cross with myself...note to self....look for flag not bloody numbers....arrragh...lesson learned!
