I'm a newcomer to The Man in the High Castle, and also I gotta say, the intro is just so cool! It's the only show wbelow I proactively rewind and replay the intro as I watch it.

You are watching: Man in the high castle intro

The paratroopers' shadows actors tears on the Founding Fathers of Mount Rushmore.

The light from the projector shines on the eyes of Statue of Liberty, putting a mask or a blindfold over her.

The Nazi Parteiadler is projected on the Amerihave the right to eagle, overwriting the Amerideserve to symbol of liberty. But the eagle is made of rock, while the Parteiadler is ephemeral.

The song, Edelweiss, is an ode to patriotism from The Sound of Music, as the von Trapplication family flees from the Nazis that annex Austria. And the singer is a Swedish woman—white, blonde hair, blue eyes, the photo of Aryanism.

I understand the majority of of this has most likely been all sassist right here prior to, and there's a bunch even more I probably missed, yet I just find all this fascinating. You might most likely create a whole evaluation on just the intro.

Also, in this thcheck out from two days earlier, u/obzidi4n mentions that the statue can be supposed to reexisting Columbia. Also the truth that she's on a horse is substantial. In sculpture, showing someone on a equine is supposed to represent a battle hero. A equine through one leg lifted implies the rider was wounded. A equine through 2 legs lifted indicates the rider was eliminated.

Well it's mirroring the concorde, which in our truth was one of the higher accomplishments of Britain and also France combined, however in theirs is a Nazi innovation. The silhouette of the airplane additionally appears to be slicing through the organic beauty of the nature in the background.

The entirety point is meant to reinforce the concept that the Nazis are effective and also progressed and have sliced through the very heart of america.

It's a haunting little ode to the show and also sets the tone perfectly. For the pilot, it shows you exactly wright here we're at without having to sacrifice screen time, and lets the show fill in the mysteries to how we shed the War and the world that came out of that. It's seeing your homeland also obtain twisted and also taken over, and while things still look acquainted they don't feel acquainted.

I personally love this variation of Edelweiss, I don't care if people crap over the singer's rendition.

The Art of the Title does a pretty great intersee with the Creative Director of the firm hired to produce these opening credits, together with storyboard proofs and also test credits.

It's a Swedish accent, a choice which I construed to be intentional.

"The paratroopers' shadows actors tears on the Founding Fathers of Mount Rushmore."

That's the just thing that bothers me about the intro because I realized it, bereason I think it's a little bit too corny.

I do think it's an extremely well done intro, also among so many great intros of recent shows.

I am confused with the option of Edelweiss, though. It's a song from a fictional musical. There's nopoint specific about the song that relates to the show. Besides the fact that it's hauntingly melancholic, which fits the intro feel well, I do wish they supplied some kind of iconic American music twisted into a haunting layout instead.

Well, the musical ends via the family fleeing their residence nation as Nazi Germany invades and also annexes Austria, and the song is a farewell ode to their nation. I think it's fitting.
