1. What Is The Story Of Lords Of The Fallen?

Lords of the Fallen takes place years after the defeat of a cruel god known as Adyr at the hands of 3 heroes: a warrior, cleric, and rogue. Though beaten, Adyr was not destroyed for good, and now his demonic Rhogar army has appeared once more from their dark realm.

In this world of gods and demons, you play as Harkyn, a convicted criminal with runes etched into his face as a testament to his sins.

But for the world to survive the Rhogar invasion, they must turn to Harkyn as their last hope for salvation.

2. How Do I Create My Character?

Lords of the Fallen may be soulslike at heart, but differs from Dark Souls when it comes to character creation. You’re stuck with Harkyn as your main character for each playthrough.

What you CAN change, however, is HOW you want to play the game.

Starting out, you’ll combine 1 school of magic (Brawling, Deception, or Solace) with 1 class (Warrior, Cleric, or Rogue).

Schools of Magic walkthrough

Each school of magic comes with its own set of unique spells. Be sure to choose the school of magic that goes best with your preferred playstyle.

The art of Brawling is to overwhelm your opponent with pure force and mighty spells

Prayer: A motionless clone that attracts enemy attention to give Harkyn an advantage. Over time it will also restore some of your health.Rage: A surrounding force that gives more damage, attack power and removes energy restrictions.Quake: Your most powerful ally, coming down to help you and slam your enemies with a giant hammer, wreaking havoc.Ram: A powerful charging force that, apart from damaging, can stagger or knock down the enemies.Deception

Deceiving the enemies and injuring them beyond recovery is the main focus of the deception magic type.

Prayer: A motionless clone that attracts enemy attention to give Harkyn an advantage in combat. Increases energy recovery.Shift: Harkyn moves into shadow dimension. Any attack he deals is devastating, but brings him back into view.Stab: A bloodseeking supernatural assassin that sprints towards its prey to severely damage it or take its life.Mimic: A phase of magic following you, copying your moves and repeating the damage you’ve done.Solace

Magic taught by scholars contains mostly defensive spells to heal and protect yourself.

Prayer: A motionless clone that attracts enemy attention to give Harkyn an advantage in combat. Increases magic recovery.Shelter: A protective shell that highly increases all types of defense and mirrors the incoming damage.Daze: A powerful force that inflicts fear upon the enemies, slowing them down and lowering defenses.Punishment: Eye for an eye. Enemy attacks are being revenged by stunning the opponent.

Classes walkthrough

After choosing your magic type, you’ll then get to choose which main class you’d like to play as. The one you choose will determine the weapons and armour you’ll start out with. So make sure you pick a class that matches the playstyle you want.

“The standard gear given to pardoned prisoners recruited to the army. Steel-armored plates will give the soldier an exceptional defense at the cost of agility. A purpose-built sword and shield will complement this set.”

Playstyle:Tank + heavy melee
Equipment:Heavy Armor, Sword, Kite Shield
Attribute Focus:STR + VIT

“A set forged by and for the battle monks of the north. The balance between mobility and defense coupled with a formidable blunt weapon and high-quality shield makes this a solid choice for an all-rounder.”

Playstyle:Magic + melee
Equipment:Medium Armor, Hammer, Kite Shield
Attribute Focus:VIT + FTH

“Mostly worn by thieves and scoundrels, this leather armor allows for high mobility. A set of daggers are simple but very fast and deadly weapons. A buckler shield, mostly used to counter-attack the enemy, rounds off this kit.”

Playstyle:Quick “hit & run” combo attacks
Equipment:Light Armor, Twin Daggers, Buckler
Attribute Focus:END + AGI

3. What Combat Techniques Are There In Lords Of The Fallen?

Basic Combat: walkthrough

Light Attacks: Light attacks are faster and consume less energy, but do less damage.Heavy Attacks: Heavy attacks are slower and consume more energy, but do significantly more damage.Chain Attacks: Press the attack button again after a previous attack (but before the animation has ended) to chain attacks that deal additional damage and consume less energy. Length of combo + number of attacks depends on the weight of your weapon and energy available.Jump Attack: Run + jump toward an enemy and press the attack button mid-air to perform a jump attack. This both staggers enemies and can break through shields.Rolling Attack: Run + roll toward an enemy and press the attack button mid-roll to perform a rolling attack that deals more damage than a regular attack.Backstabbing: By moving or sneaking behind an enemy and using a light attack, you’ll backstab the enemy. This attack deals heavy damage and leaves enemies vulnerable on the ground for a brief moment.Blocking: Press the block button to reduce incoming damage with your weapon or shield. Shields are more effective than weapons, but you can block with either.Dodging: Performing a well-timed dodge will avoid most standard enemy attacks.Side-stepping: This technique is especially effective at avoiding slower incoming attacks, but will depend heavily on how quickly you can move.

There are 3 basic stances you can use throughout the game, each with their own unique benefits and playstyles.

Weapon + Shield Stance

Shield Charge: Run with your shield raised to stun enemies or knock down fragile walls leading to secret areas.

You’ll also gain unique abilities depending on the shield you use:

Tower Shield: By planting your shield firmly in the ground, create a defensive wall that significantly reduces damage and stuns charging enemies.Kite Shield: Shield bash enemies and stun them temporarily.Buckler Shield: A well-timed riposte will deflect an oncoming enemy attack and follow up with a heavy-hitting critical strike of your own.

Weapon + Gauntlet Stance

Your gauntlet attacks will vary heavily depending on the runes you have equipped:

Blast: After a long charge up, you’ll release a devastating short range attack that will shred through multiple enemies at once.Explosive: Launch a small “energy grenade” towards an enemy or group of enemies.Projectile: Lock on to a target and shoot continuous projectile attacks at the enemy.

Two-handed Stance

You can use heavy-hitting two-handed weapons, but lose access to the special abilities of shields or your gauntlet.

4. How Do I Craft Weapons And Armour?

After the 3rd boss fight, you’ll meet an NPC known as “The Crafter”. Through him, you’ll be able to unlock your Sealed Runes and upgrade your gear with different bonuses and effects.
