I just want to know: Which one is stronger and also which one is more polite?
Ferme-la ! (or La ferme !) is extremely rude although you might be even even more rude with Tu vas la fermer ta gueule ! or just Ta gueule !.
You are watching: How do you say be quiet in french
Tais-toi ! or Taisez-vous ! is just acceptable if you are talking to youngsters or to civilization under your orders, much better to add s"il te plait / s"il vous plait to slightly sfrequently the research.
With friends, you might say Camembert (for ferme ta boite à camembert…)yet it"s more a joke than anything, and also just offered in France.
If you are talking to someone you do not recognize, directly asking to that perkid to stop talking is rude, whatever before the method you say it. This is true in English too.
In such situation, you"d rather instraight ask favor one of these ways:
Est-ce que je peux vous demander un peu de silence s"il vous plait ?
Excusez-moi, pourriez-vous parler un peu moins fort s"il vous plaît ?
Pourriez-vous faire un peu moins de bruit pendant que je … ?
Finally, chut ! or just the index in front or the lips is a common method to ask for silence, precisely favor the "shhh!" gesture.

Both are rude, however « Ferme-la » is the strongest. These are very disrespectful and you must prevent using them. Actually, as discussed by Simon Déchamps in the comments, it"s rude bereason it"s imperative. Asking someone to soptimal talking is in most cases rude. To remain polite the great means would certainly be to ask the perchild to make less noise (Pourriez-vous faire moins de bruit s"il vous plait ?).
« Tais-toi ! » is occasionally used to ask a kid to be quiet, and also in an adult-to-children talk there"s no problem utilizing it, but in an adult-to-adult conversation it"s disrespectful as a result of its imperative facet, though the verb itself isn"t rude. « Ferme-la » is disrespectful even once talking to kids, and also it"s rude anyway.
Keep in mind that also though « Tais-toi ! » have the right to be used toward a kid, tbelow are still even more respectful ways to tell it, by instance :
Pourrais-tu te taire s"il te plaît ?
Which converts to « Could you please speak talking ?`
If you want it to sound even more choose an order, adding « s"il te plaît » will make it even more polite :
