So I simply noticed that eincredibly time my puppy (7 months) finishes eating he starts to rub his face on our couch or floor. He provides this weird sniffing noise and just rubs his face on it. I understand it's more than likely not a big deal however I was just curious why he may be doing that? EDIT: Thanks for all the responses guys! Looks prefer this is a normal incident via many dogs!

Mine does this after eating something specifically yummy or messy. I always thought she was simply trying to clean her muzzle.

My dog does this as soon as he's very happy, occasionally after meals, it's dubbed scent rolling.

thank you for this! But he doesn't really roll in his food.....he eats it and also then rubs his face on the couch haha

You may need to experiment with different textures and also ingredient compositions of foods. It may be among many kind of feasible things:

a silly habit the puppy emerged for no reason

a habit emerged out of stress, perhaps prior to you acquired him (once did this behaviour start?)

itchiness because of allergic reaction to your food

itchiness due to allergic reaction to something else (some grasses deserve to be spanned in fungus that has actually a neurotoxic effect, it's unlikely and rare however a possibility)

itchiness as a result of some sort of disease or parasite

at some point you or someone else could have rewarded this behaviour via treats or attention, and also now he thinks it's fun and useful

And that's not an exhaustive list. So attempt taking some documents of what he's eating, and also where he's going/what he's doing on his walks, and also see if you have the right to pick up on any kind of fads on as soon as he does it. If you gain any kind of other difficulties pertained to food or skin, go view a vet and also take your documents via you.

He just does it for a couple of seconds after he eats. I've adjusted his food a couple times and he's still doing it so I don't think it's the food. We obtained him at 8 weeks so I don't think it's a learned behavior. So I'm guessing its either a dumb halittle he has or some parawebsite that might actually be bothering him and also is prompted right after he eats?

Our Border Terrier pup was doing this at around 6 or 7 months, and also about a month later on, he began doing it a lot even more frequently. We took him to the vet to be safe, and also turned out he had pink eye. :S I'm certainly not saying that that's what it is (he developed other symptoms like goopy eyes, and so on.), but choose rebcart claims, store an eye on it and also monitor for any fads. Good luck!
